The original line-up of cult 1990s Australian indie rock band Holocene return to earth with a lavish remaster of their classic album.
Holocene – Kerrie (bass), Jo-Anne (guitar), Mick (guitar), Duncan (drums) – were a brief Melbourne delight that added a refreshingly melodic blast of guitar pop to the sound of the heavy grunge bands that were prevalent at the time.
Equally blissed-out and emotionally resonant, their sound invited comparisons with The Go-Go's, Redd Kross, Veruca Salt, and The Breeders, and were described in one review as “Hüsker Dü meets The Bangles”.
The band's blend of boisterous, harmony-driven power pop, crunchy guitars and intergalactic imagery was punchy, bright and fun, and led to shows with bands such as The Clouds, Throwing Muses, The Fauves, You Am I, Custard, and Frank Black
(Pixies).
Within months of their first gig, and after garnering some great reviews, Holocene signed to Shock Records, releasing three EPs, and the album, Spurr.
FORMATS
To mark its 30th anniversary, Spurr will be available on vinyl (green and orange coloured pressings) for the first time, and CD. Remastered by Joe Carra at Crystal Mastering, the album features the singles 'Pop Astronauts', 'Guitarbarella', and the Badfinger gem, 'Flying'
