Double CD album from a bloke who reckons he was in TISM. But hey - anyone can say that, right? Sure Damian sounds quite a bit like Humphrey B Flaubert, and the lyrics are clever, funny, and have the same cynical smartarsey feel to them. Someone even said this album could even be the logical successor to TISM's The White Albun, but that was probably a record company marketing guy.
One thing for sure - it's a damn fine record.

Being just “the guy in TISM’ has never been enough for Damian Cowell. In the 18 year disappearance of those Australian music icons, Damian amassed a hefty body of work in his band's ROOT!, The DC3 and Damian Cowell’s Disco Machine; has been a commissioned artist at MONA; and has turned his style to comedy at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and the Melbourne Fringe Festival. But that’s nothing compared to what Damian did in 2021.
Only The Shit You Love is Damian Cowell’s story of a disturbingly recognisable parallel universe where we can’t decide whether to erase or exhume the past – told of course in his distinctive darkly comic style. But it’s not just a story. It’s Damian Cowell staking a claim to be one of the most creative artists this country has ever produced. In a staggeringly ambitious move, he wrote the songs and screenplay, designed, drew, and then animated a feature-length 19 part animated graphic novel web series, and then produced a 19 episode accompanying podcast. Damian capped it all off with the release of Only The Shit You Love, the double album, featuring cameos by Judith Lucy, Patience Hodgson, Aunty Donna, Shaun Micallef, Geraldine Quinn, Matt Stewart and Liz Stringer.
